Part One

A motley group of applicants are interviewed for jobs at Department 7. After an initial period of training, they have become Team Delta. Are they ready for their first mission?

The Team

Professor Thomas Madeley (Darthphil) - Field Scientist

Jobe Kendo(sarge) - Combat Specialist

Dr Florence Higgins(Plague) - Field Medic

Gekizan Ramshout(Gekz) - Computer Specialist

Markus(Seth Drake) - Combat Specialist

Team Handlers:

Vaughan Ottersby (Mr B)

Maggie Sharpe (NPC)

The team are unexpectedly summoned to the briefing room by Vaughan Ottersby. “I’m sorry, gentlemen. Something has come up – we will have to send you out in the field sooner than expected”.

“Look at this” - A picture is displayed on the screen. It shows a genial-looking man in his mid fifties.

“This is Professor Ephraim Abernathy, he is the leading designer at Adamus Robotics. Professor Abernathy has up until recently been engaged in some cutting-edge research for the Ministry of Defence in association with Apex Industries. This was called project Prometheus, and was all about designing a robot that would go behind enemy lines and attack enemy targets in a surgical and stealthy manner. A sort of ‘Special Ops’ robot, if you like. The robot was designated SA-2, but soon became affectionately nicknamed ‘Howard’ – nobody knows why. In order to give this creation some autonomy on the battlefield, it was equipped with a prototype AI processor. The project was passed, and the prototype went for assessment on army territory near Bodmin Moor. At first, the tests went well. Everybody was pleased with how efficiently Howard performed its missions – until it went missing. “Today, we have been informed that Professor Abernathy has been killed in his home”

“Now watch this” he says, and up on the screen appears some video footage. It looks grainy and indistinct – low light CCTV images. It shows an indistinct, humanoid figure, stumbling through an interior corridor. The camera seems to have some difficulty following the figure. It keeps wavering and blinking out of sight. “That is Howard, captured by the CCTV in Prfessor Abernathy’s accommodation block. As you can see it also has an optical chameleon system fitted, the hallway CCTV has the greatest difficulty in holding its image. The robot entered Prof. Abernathy’s quarters and, strangely, there was a conversation, and then, Howard killed him”.

Via Apex Industries we had kept tabs on the project. We had bugged some locations and individuals. Because of this we believe we know where Howard will strike next, this will be Adamus Robotic’s Mainframe computer, the only place where Howard’s AI program is stored. And we also have an extract from Prof Abernathy’s notes on how to disable Howard’s Self Destruct mechanism. This will be of interest to any technical personnel amongst you, especially since we would like to recover Howard if possible".

“The Humvee has been prepped, you have ten minutes to requisition any extra equipment you think you need. Use of deadly force against human targets is Not Authorised.
