Order of Suro
The exact origins of the order are lost to the annals of time but legend has it that a Paladin named Kelin founded it around the same time as Frjn Empire. The stories of Kelin's deeds of valour have turned to legend and myth and many if not most of the exact details have been lost. Some even say the stories are about other people but have now been attributed to Kelin. Although many of his deeds may be contested the overall history goes that Kelin journeyed across the lands gathering many followers and supporters of his cause. These followers swore allegiance to him and to the ideals of Suro, Kelin's patron Deity. With his supporters he founded the order on an island (Kamata) just off the coast of Eastern Frjn and Kelin took on the title of Lord Protector, a title still used by the head of the order today. From these roots the order goes on to enforce the laws of the land and protect Seradrim from Chaos. What history does not record in any consistent way is what happened to Kelin. Some say he died peacefully, others that he was slain in defending Seradrim, others that he ascended to the realms of the Gods to be at Suro's side and others say his spirit continues to guide the order to this very day.
Over time the order grew larger and integrated itself into the political structures of most the Empire and began to make ties with the other major nations. This caused no small amount of grief with them in relation to the Imperial Army. While the Order was within the bounds of the Empire it was required to send a battalion of men each year (in rotation) to serve in the army as part of standad Imperial 'integration'. One of Kellin's successors to the Lord Protector's role eventually agreed to this point, although in a strange and unprecedented move he did get one concession from the Emperor; at a time of war the Order would be able to make the moral choice as to whether the Imperial cause was just and true, and if not they could sit out the conflivt or even fight with the enemy. This caused much resentment to the order that has lasted in someplaces to this day.
Although the order has had it's ups and downs throughout history to this day they still have at least some small influence, known or not, among many of the major nations. They have outposts of varying size across the world but the political head of the order is still located at its birthplace, the Island Kamata in the city named after the founder Kelin. The membership of the Order is quite varied too, from noble Paladins with aspirations to save the world from evil, battalions of war mages and steadfast knights or even sneaky rogues ensuring that information is always flowing to the order.
The order is dedicated to the enforcement of law and respects the local laws set by the rulers of the lands. The order maintains their tenet is not to interfere in wars between other nations but they have been know to get heavily involved in civil wars, backing the side of justice (as they see it) and ensuring the war is contained to the affected nation. As such they have often been outspoken in many nations use of the Draniche/Spransif warzone, believing that by shipping off the conflict to another battlefield that wars are sanitised and rationalised in ways that they couldn't be if a capital city was burning down. Many outposts can also be found along trade routes, ensuring that merchants are not bothered by bandits and to put a stop to illegal smuggling.
