THE DARK HOLLOW

Setting: The Forgotten Realms Starting Town: Everlund (The Silver Marches)

From level one plebs to demi-gods in several easy sessions - well, almost. Hold on to your pointy hats and get ready for lots of fast-paced action, copious amounts of rail-roading and maybe even the odd gruesome death.

Background

Two distinct sources of evil are growing in the world and they plague the visionary dreams of Mordigan, the aged seer of Everlund. Morning Lord Kallon Latimer, High Priest of Pelor, has assembled two parties – one each to be despatched to investigate and destroy these sources of evil. Mordigan’s scrying has pin pointed them both; one party has been sent to the sunny paradise island of Tregarn in the Korrin Archipelago and the other party has been sent north to the frozen edges of civilisation at the Spine of the World.

Your party is lucky enough to be the one sent to endure the frozen wastelands and after many days of miserable, arduous travelling, suffering the pangs of hunger, painful blisters and frost bitten noses, you finally arrive at your journey’s end - Ironhold Mountain. Now all that remains is to locate and investigate the source of evil eminence and if possible – destroy it. Easy.

The Church of Pelor

Though Pelor is not in the pantheon of Faerûn I have not presumed that players own a copy of the Forgotten Realms Player’s Guide and so have decided to merge the deities of the core rules Players Hand Book and Faerûn together into this campaign so that you may choose from either source. In this game Pelor and Amaunator are one and the same god (god of the sun) but known by different names depending on where you come from, or to a lesser extent, depending on personal choice of the individual worshipper.

The ‘home town’ from which the player characters are first despatched is Everlund, one of the three main cities of the Silver Marches. In Everlund the sun god is revered as Pelor.

Hooks

Disturbed by Mordigan’s visions and prophecies of growing sources of evil, the Temple of Pelor in Everlund has contrived to put together two expeditions to investigate. So why are you lucky enough to form one of the parties? -

(i) You are a devoted worshipper of Pelor connected directly or indirectly to the Temple of Everlund and have been afforded the honour by the clergy to undertake this quest.

(ii) You are a mercenary hired to join the quest. The pay is piss poor but its not easy to get work in these parts.

(iii) You are a self motivated (i.e only interested in personal gain) roguish character who decides to join the party in order to investigate rumours that the mountains are full of gold and treasures (as always) – and by tagging along you get to benefit from a handy escort of hardened adventurers.

(iv) Whatever other reason you may deign to come up with as part of your character’s background.
