Zadori Chapter I

From Black Country Role Playing Society

“al-ssharrr-Lek” said the mage

“alssharrrlek” muttered the class

“No! No! NO! al-ssharrr-Lek”

“al-ssharrrlek” muttered the class again

“Better but we have a long way to go.”

“This is pointless!” whispered a young elf to a female standing next to him.

“Mr. Varan! Since you have time to talk to your fellow students, perhaps you can enlighten the class about the pronunciation of the word.” The mage said icily.

“al-ssharrr-Lek, it comes from the postignatious era, and is prelude to the gathering of magical energies necessary for fire magics.”

“Very good.” Replied the mage with a sour look on his face. “Not as stupid as you look.”

“Not as stupid as you.” He muttered in a lower voice than before

“Mr. Varan! Do you have something else you wish to share with the class?”

“No.”

“No, what?”

“No master magus.”

The mage viewed the class with narrowed eyes.

“Make sure you can all pronounce ‘al-ssharrr-Lek’, for next time, class dismissed, Now get out of my sight!.”

The class began to file out.

“Mr. Varan, a moment.”

Zadori walked defiantly over to the mage.

“You have a rare talent Mr. Varan, but do not let it go to your head, you are very young and lucky to have been granted a place here, don’t jeopardize it with petulance and rudeness.”

Zadori bowed his head “Sorry magus” he said in a less than convincing tone.

The mage frowned, unsure whether to accept the apology at face value; sighed deeply and waved Zadori away.

                                            * * * * *

“What did the magus want with you?”

“Nothing important” answered Zadori carelessly, his eyes straying over the comely figure of the female elf.

“Come on! He must have chewed you out a bit.” She answered

“Meh!” and took her hand in his

She smiled sweetly and held her other hand out to him, Zadori took it, and they briefly kissed.

“Are your parents’ home?” asked Zadori

“No, father is at a council meeting and mother is off doing the washing; they should both be away for hours.”

“Great, let’s go back to your place.”

“How about we go back to yours?” she answered

“No privacy” he replied, “besides my adoptive parents wouldn’t approve of me having ‘relations’ with the daughter of a high council member.” He said with a sneer

“What’s that got to do with anything?” she answered

“We all have our station Zadori, she is too good for the likes of us.” He replied doing a very poor imitation of his ‘father’

“What nonsense! If we love each other, what does social status matter?”

“I couldn’t agree more, Celebess.”

He kissed her passionately, and then turning, put his arm round her shoulder and they started walking through the nearly deserted streets, as they walked, Zadori’s arm slid from her shoulder and came to rest up on her waist

“That better not go any lower in public, mister…” she said with laugh

“Sometimes you’re no fun at all.” He replied with a grin on his face.

                                            * * * * *

Zadori awoke gagging as hands closed around his scrawny neck.

“HOW DARE YOU DEFILE MY DAUGHTER!”

Zadori unable to utter so much as a syllable merely made gurgling sounds

“YOU COMMON BORN, PIECE OF SHIT! HOW DARE YOU EVEN SO MUCH AS LAY EYES UPON HER!”

Celebess, rolled out of bed her long blonde hair, covering her nakedness

“Father!” she cried out, “You’re killing him!”

“SILENCE! WHORE!” he screamed a manic gleam in his eye, he clouted her around the head with the back of his hand, she fell to the floor with sickening thud.

Zadori glanced sideways at the supine form of his lover, and his eyes narrowed

“al-ssharrr-Lek haaR-assh” he managed to utter

there was a brilliant flash of light and Zadori fell to the floor as the other elf dropped him and clutched his eyes, Zadori scrambled back trying to get to his belt knife, but the other elf was upon him again and neatly kicked the knife out of his hand.

“crim-harrss-gur-celass AG zuam morbat”

The bed clothes sprang to life.

“Knot and Tie” Zadori shouted as the elf reached down to throttle him once more.

The bed clothes neatly snaked out and in the blink of an eye, the elf was tied to the bed post

“YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS!” Screamed Celebess’ father.

Zadori narrowed his eyes and for a second time uttered the word “Tie”.

The end of the bed clothes wrapped neatly around the top of the elf’s head and his jaw, effectively silencing him.

Zadori moved over to the figure of Celebess and felt for a pulse

“Thank the gods, still alive.”

He quickly dressed in his plain brown tunic and trousers, he grabbed Celebess’ dress and slipped it over her head, pulling it down over her unconscious form, and then scooped her up and slipped out of the window.

                                            * * * * *

The elf maiden stirred and groaned.

“al-ssharrr-Lek hoor-essh.”

A faint light appeared, illuminating some crates with a oilcloth forming the ceiling, Zadori placed his finger to his lips “Shhh..my love.” He whispered

“Zadori, what happened?”

“We escaped, but by now your father’s troops must be looking for us, however with a bit of luck this cart will go through the night and we’ll at the frontier town. If we can get on another cart we can be out of Elven lands and free of your father’s jurisdiction.”

“But what about our lives back home?” she said tears welling up in her eyes.

“Celebess,” He said gently “Your own father stuck you down. In a rage he might have done it by accident, but surely he would have seen to you before trying to deal with me. Neither of us can go back.”

He cradled her head his lap and gently kissed her forehead. “But..”

“Shhh…my love, I’ll take care of you, everything will be fine.”

The light held out for a few more minutes, and then everything faded to darkness.

                                            * * * * *

“By Bocob! You two have been in the wars haven’t you?” The tiny mage exclaimed

“Disagreement with her father.” Replied Zadori

“I see, and might I know the name of your father my dear?”

“Nambanorn Saelmaethor.” answered Celebess

“Oh! My! I never expected to move in such exalted circles.”

“Will you help us?” asked Zadori

“Would Grindle the Magnificent, pass up the chance to teach a couple of elves the noble art of magic?” He mused “Of course not! But…”

“But what?” Interrupted Zadori

“…I make it my policy to only ever teach one apprentice at a time.”

“Are you incapable of teaching more than one person at a time?” asked Zadori barely able to keep the rudeness out of his voice

“Of course I could…If I chose to, but I choose not to…”

“Why?”

“I believe that the teaching experience is better one to one, and since I’m the master and you’re the potential apprentice, what I say goes…unless of course you wish to go now…” replied the mage with twinkle in his eye

“What about Celebess, what is she supposed to do while I learn from you?”

“Awfully presumptuous, aren’t we? Maybe I’ll teach her first.”

“I don’t think so, I’m the more gifted student, and besides the quicker you teach me, the sooner I’ll be out of your hair.” Zadori said with a smirk.

“While I’m sure you are talented, you do need to learn humility.” Answered the mage “You may stay here with your...wife?”

“Soulmate.” Answered Zadori with a backwards glance at Celebess, she nodded happily at him

“But I will be teaching her first, you may study the ancillary texts first perhaps that will get you into the right frame of mind to actually learn something from me.”

“Very well.” Zadori answered darkly

“Great, let’s get our things” said Celebess “We can stay here, can’t we?”

“Of course my dear, but try not to keep an old man up at night with your youthful passion.”

Celebess blushed.
