Zadori Chapter III
From Black Country Role Playing Society
Celebess hurried into the library, at the sound of her foot steps, Zadori quickly covered a copy of “Otiluke’s minor evocations” with “Rary’s introduction to the arcane” and flipped to a random page and ran his finger down the passage as if reading quickly. “Zadori! Hurry! The old man is coming!” Hissed Celebess
“Don’t worry everything is covered.” Zadori said with a wicked grin upon his face.
Grindel hobbled in surveyed the scene and walked behind Zadori and whipped the book away, revealing only table.
“Zadori, show me what is in your hand under the table.” Grindel said menacingly
Zadori moved his hand from under the table and opened it palm upwards, it was empty.
“Now stand up.”
Zadori stood and there was a soft thump as the book on his lap fell to the floor, Grindel stooped picked up the book and read the cover.
“Mystical Theory by Tenser. Zadori, would you be so kind as to remove the cantrip upon this book?”
Zadori sighed and the book once again became “Otiluke’s minor evocations”
“Celebess, return to the study and continue with your reading.” Said Grindel
Celebess raised her hands apologetically, winked at Zadori and hurried from the room.
“Zadori, I’ll grant you points for originality, but why in the nine hells do you persist in reading texts far too advanced and dangerous for you?”
“Because this” Zadori gestured at the formerly covering book “is boring, a waste of my time and I know everything in it.”
“But you endanger yourself trying to learn this powerful magic at your stage of development.”
“Magic is dangerous, even with the decades of enunciation practice the elven masters force upon us, there are a few cases where apprentices immolate themselves when casting burning hands. I guess they take the spell a little literally.”
“Very witty.” Replied Grindel “But this book is way too advanced for you.”
“It’s only the second circle of magic, and it not like I’m trying to cast the spells in here; I just want to see if I can figure the spells out.”
“Celebess is coming on quickly, it won’t be long before I start teaching you, have patients Zadori.”
“I’ve been patient, for three months I’ve been stuck here reading books you would give to new apprentice, I want to learn some magic!”
“I’ve warned you Zadori, you are not ready for this, I’ll not warn you again. It’s clear that I can’t stop you reading these advanced texts, but on your own head be it.”
Grindel placed “Otiluke’s minor evocations” back on the table and returned to his study.
“Excellent.” Grinned Zadori and reached for the text.
* * * * *
Zadori snuggled up next to Celebess in their tiny bed.
“Did the old man chew you out much?”
“No, he washed his hands of me; I can study what I want.”
“Are you sure that is such a good idea? Surely he has his reasons for trying to stop you.”
“He fears I’m too cocky, but think Celebess, was there ever a spell I couldn’t cast first time, back home?”
“No...No there wasn’t, you were the greatest apprentice back there.”
“See, I’m careful, and I know what I’m doing, but I need stimulation.”
“Okay, my love, we can do that.”
See kissed him passionately upon the lips…
